With everything we want to do at SOLO, the broader perspective will always be to explore how to work with naturally dyed textiles.
We use natural fibres, dye them with natural dyes and send them off into the world to be their natural selves. Having said that, we feel it is our responsibility to let you know how natural dyes work to help you understand how beautiful the process is.
Natural dyeing is very different than synthetic dyeing, we do not use any harsh chemicals and depending on the chosen colour, the fibres might be boiled, painted and printed on with natural ingredients. Unlike synthetic dyes which are designed to bond and never let go, natural dyes require care by the wearer and age beautifully.
We recommend washing the indigo fabrics before wearing them as the excess pigment can rub off on your body or other pieces of clothing but this will happen only for two-three wears. After that the pigment will cease to bleed. Did you know when indigo bleeds on your body, it is the plant’s way of sacrificing itself to protect you from UV rays as the plant has excellent UV ray protection properties!
Thank you for keeping this craft alive!
